This one day course is for professionals who are trained in mentalizing treatment approaches and who wish to deliver a programme of mentalizing skills for mental health professionals in their workplace. The protocol for trainers is derived from the basic elements of Mentalization Based Treatment. It comprises a summary of the knowledge and skills that need to be imparted in a training programme if mental health practitioners are to include basic mentalizing interventions in their everyday work. A hand out for trainees is also included in the manual.
The manual for training will be provided to participants after satisfactory completion of the course. The manual is accompanied by a set of slides and a DVD of the role plays to be used when training practitioners.
The knowledge and skills elements of the manual, including the role plays, will be worked on throughout the training day. Participants will be expected to deliver some of the lectures, participate in demonstrations, and supervise role plays.
At the end of the day participants will :
- Understand the use of the manual
- Be able to teach the knowledge base underpinning mentalizing as a theoretical and clinical concept
- Be able to illustrate, through role plays and clinical examples, the clinical application of mentalizing in mental health services
- Have the tools to facilitate learning of mentalizing techniques by mental health professionals
Who is this course suitable for?
This course is suitable for professionals who have:
- Completed MBT advanced training course
- A lead role in their organisation in training
- Good knowledge of psychological interventions in mental health services
Aims of the course
The aim of the course is to equip senior mental health professionals who are competent in MBT to train other mental health professionals in basic mentalizing skills. It is NOT to train mental health professionals to become trainers in MBT as a specialist treatment.
