Aims of the course
What are the difficulties in communicating concerns about vulnerable and complex families? This course aims to promote understanding of behaviour and play in children and adolescents about whom there are concerns. We will look at the attachment patterns of children who are victims of emotional abuse and how these patterns can result from dysfunctional ways of relating in their parents. This course fosters a multi-disciplinary approach and the importance of good communication within teams and between different professional services. Clinical scenarios will be used in each module of the course to think about difficult clinical situations such as assessments of severely traumatised children including those in the care system, meetings with angry or intimidating parents, parents with personality disorders, domestic violence and so forth. Participants will be asked to bring an anonymised case they wish to discuss for the final session.
Who is this course suitable for?
This course is aimed at professionals working with children and young people in the social care, education and health sector.
