Are you a parent/ carer in Camden? The Anna Freud Centre is offering a free eight week parenting course to parents/carers in Camden who are living in temporary accommodation.

The 'Being a Parent' Course

The ‘Being a Parent’ course is run by parents for parents.

The course covers general issues like

  • understanding feelings and children’s behaviour,
  • play and listening,
  • labels, praise and discipline.

It’s really useful, completely free and currently it is being offered to parents living in temporary or insecure accommodation in Camden, with the knowledge that this can be a particularly challenging situation to raise children in.

The course is 16 hours, 2 hours a week over 8 weeks. It is suitable for parents who:

  • Have experience of temporary accommodation or insecure housing
  • Camden resident
  • Have a child between ages 2-11
  • Expect to be able to attend all the sessions
  • Are not currently in care proceedings

There will be the opportunity for parents who complete the first training programme to gain accreditation (OCN) and also apply to progress and become a paid facilitator themselves.

Coffee Morning

If you are a parent or carer interested in finding out some more information, please come along to the coffee morning / information session on Monday, 12th May at 11.00 – 13.00 at England’s Lane in the Zillion suite.

This will be an opportunity for parents and carers to meet the course leaders, find out a little more and if interested formally sign up.

The course will then run every Monday from 19th May – 21st July (excluding bank holidays) at the same times.

We are happy to chat face to face or by telephone to any parents or professionals who might want to find out more about the course.

Please email epec.epec@annafreud.org with any questions or to register your interest in the coffee morning.

N.B The Anna Freud National Centre for Children and Families has been commissioned to pilot the Empowering Parents, Empowering Communities (EPEC) peer to peer parenting scheme by Camden Council, through the Innovation Fund Scheme. The ‘Being a parent’ course will be run once in the summer term 2014 and then twice more in the Spring term of 2015.
