Mentalization Based Family Therapy (MBFT) Research Project

MBFT is a brief (6 to 12 session) intervention for children and families, the aim of which is to improve communication problem solving in the family through the promotion of mentalization. Click here for more information about the MBFT Family Support Service.

In conjunction with the provision of MBFT as a service (The Family Support Service), it is also an ongoing research project. For this reason, families are asked to fill out a series of questionnaires at the beginning, middle and end of the treatment. This is very important because it helps the Anna Freud Centre to further develop this service by evaluating its impact on families.

In order to fund the research project, the Anna Freud Centre has received a grant from the Henry Smith Charity to offer the MBFT Family Support Service. As of June 2008, 94 cases have been seen.

If you are interested in this service or would like to get more information please discuss it with your GP or contact Katharina Watt at the Anna Freud Centre on 0207 794 2230 or katharina.watt@annafreud.org.

In addition to the research project and providing MBFT as a service (The Family Support Service), the Anna Freud Centre also offers a short course in MBFT for NHS staff.
