Hide and Seek exhibition goes on display at the Freud Museum
On Wednesday 4th September the Anna Freud National Centre for Children and Families teamed up with Kids Company and the Freud Museum to launch 'Hide and Seek', an exhibition of art work by some of London's most vulnerable and under-privileged children and adolescents.
The event started at the Anna Freud National Centre for Children and Families with an engaging talk by Professor Peter Fonagy on hiding and seeking behaviour from a neuroscientific and attachment perspective. He was followed by Camila Batmanghelidjh, founder of Kids Company, who spoke about how young people from her charity had worked with artists to create the pieces on display. The crowd then moved on to the Freud Museum to see the vibrant exhibition; there were pyramids and benches in the garden, sculptures hidden in Freud's study and even a giant monster hanging from the ceiling. Peter Fonagy said: "The Centre is delighted to be part of this ground-breaking event, which for once is highlighting not just the social problem of child maltreatment but also the solution in the form of their unbroken spirit and extraordinary creative talent. "
Ms Batmanghelidjh said the exhibition allows others to “experience the children’s take on the emotional effects of trauma and neglect on the unconscious mind”.
