Parent Consultation Service
If you are concerned because your child is feeling very sad or angry, worried or depressed, it can sometimes be helpful to talk things over with a qualified professional. Our one-off telephone consultation (max. half an hour) for parents provides free, specialist advice and support on common difficulties that many families face.
Why might you contact us?
Typical reasons why families may contact us include:
- The impact on children of family disputes and arguments
- School refusal and separation difficulties
- Coping with loss, bereavement or the impact of divorce and separation on children
After the consultation we will send you a letter summarising the key points from the discussion. Where further help is needed, we can give you advice on how to access appropriate services, including Mentalization Based Family Therapy at the Anna Freud Centre itself or other services elsewhere.
Who is the service for?
Every family with school aged children (5-18) within central and North West London can use our free consultation service, which is made possible by the generous support of the John Lyons Charity and the Priory Foundation. The nine London boroughs within our catchment area are: Harrow, Barnet, Brent, Camden, City of London, Westminster, Kensington & Chelsea, Hammersmith & Fulham and Ealing.
How do I contact the service?
Contacting us is simple – just pick up the phone and call to arrange a convenient time for one of our team to call you. We aim to offer a consultation within a maximum of two weeks from first contact.
