One in five children will experience mental health problems at some stage of their childhood. The Anna Freud Centre supports and advises parents and provides specialist help for children and young people in emotional distress.
We offer a range of innovative services for children and families:
- The Parent-Infant Project provides help for parents and infants who are struggling with concerns in their relationship, such as postnatal depression or an unsettled baby.
- We run four parent-toddler groups, two at AFC and two in the community, offering help and support to families having problems with toddler parenting.
- A ten-session Family Support Service is available for children and families under stress.
- A Parent Consultation Service for parents provides free, specialist, telephone advice and support on common difficulties that many families face.
- Either intensive psychotherapy (three or more sessions per week), or less intensive individual therapy is available for some children and adolescents whose problems indicate the need for specialist one-to-one help.
We are committed to the provision of accessible services for our local community and strive to make our services available to those who for various reasons may find it difficult to travel to the Centre. Click here to learn more about our outreach services.
Specialist Consultation Services
Our specialist consultation services include the Court Assessment Service which provides expert opinion on the likely risk to abused children of going back to live with their parents or carers, and the Family Assessment Service which aims to determine what is in a child's best interests where a child is the subject of care proceedings.
We also offer a wide range of training courses for mental health professionals.
