New Short Course: Personality Disorder and Parenting

This new 3-day workshop will examine what Personality Disorder (PD) is, how it relates to parenting, and its impact on children's development. The course will look at how to deal with PD parents, examining such issues as parental sensitivity to criticism, and parents who lie. As well as providing an explanation of PD and its effects on families and relationships the course will provide practical advice on dealing with PD parents in a professional setting, for example how to deal with angry, confrontational meetings and attacks on the professional's competence and integrity, and assessing children's attachments to PD parents. This workshop will be particularly useful for social workers and mental health professionals working closely with families in which a parent has a possible diagnosis of PD.

Location: The Anna Freud Centre
Course Directors: Duncan McLean (Consultant Psychiatrist in Psychotherapy; Lead Clinician, Personality Disorder Service, Maudsley Hospital; Adult and Child Psychoanalyst, AFC) and Minna Daum (Senior Family Therapist, AFC).
There are 40 places on this course, allocated on a first come, first served basis. The course will only run with a minimum of 20 participants.
