Short Course: Introduction to the Practice of Psychoanalytic Parent-Infant Psychotherapy
The next course will take place in London on 7-10 January 2009. The course fee is £600.
Aim
The aim of this course, which ties in with the AFC's Parent-Infant Project (PIP), is to extend the understanding and skills particular to therapeutically-based, early intervention with attachment disorders.
Who may be interested
Professionals working with infants and their parents who are interested in developing specialist therapeutic skills in this area - child psychotherapists, psychiatrists, psychologists, therapists, social workers, psychiatric nurses and allied professions.
The model
The training is based on the therapeutic model developed by the Anna Freud Centre Parent-Infant Project, as described in their book, The Practice of Psychoanalytic Parent-Infant Psychotherapy: Claiming the Baby (Routledge, London 2005).
Programme
Each training day will include seminars and technique-based discussions, anchored in clinical video material.
The following topics will be addressed:
- Theory and principles of psychoanalytic parent-infant psychotherapy
- Engaging the family in parent-infant psychotherapy . Baby, parent/s and therapist - the therapeutic encounter
- The process of ending in parent-infant psychotherapy
- Working with 'hard to reach' high risk populations . Therapeutic mother baby groups
The Trainers
The seminars and discussions will be led by therapists in the Parent-Infant Project.
Accreditation
At the end of the course participants will be issued with an Anna Freud Centre certificate of participation.
