Short Term Mentalization and Relational Therapy (SMART) Research Project

SMART is a brief (8 to 12 session) intervention for children and families, the aim of which is to improve communication problem solving in the family through the promotion of mentalization. Click here for more information about SMART.

In conjunction with the provision of SMART as a service, it is also an ongoing research project. For this reason, families are asked to fill out a series of questionnaires at the beginning, middle and end of the treatment. This is very important because it helps the Anna Freud Centre to further develop this service by evaluating its impact on families.

In order to fund the research project, the Anna Freud Centre has received a grant from the Henry Smith Charity offer SMART to 40 families before September 2007. To date, 37 cases have been seen.

If you are interested in this service or would like to get more information please discuss it with your GP or contact Samantha Blackburn at the Anna Freud Centre on 0207 794 2313.

In addition to the research project and providing SMART as a service, the Anna Freud Centre also offers a short course in SMART for NHS staff.

SMART is also a key component to the AFC's Renal Project.
