About this course

This is specialist CBT consultation group for practitioners working with children and young people. The aim is to provide group members with an opportunity to discuss their CBT practice; supporting the acquisition of knowledge, understanding and competence in applying CBT models in the context of child, family and school practice. It will provide participants with the opportunity to develop knowledge, skills and understanding in CBT practice in relation to their own cases, but also to learn from others’ case work, and to provide a forum for sharing ideas and creative practice with colleagues. The group will have space for up to 6 participants. The group will take place for 3 hours, including a short break in the middle. ½ hour will be allocated to each student in the group. The group will follow a similar format to the practice tutor groups on the course:

•Participants will need to bring a working formulation and a case consultation question.

•They will be encouraged to bring DVR clips of their work for discussion.

•The group can choose to explore themes relevant to CBT with children if they choose to do so.

Who is this course suitable for?

Professionals who are currently working with children, young people and families using a CBT approach. Participants will need to evidence a basic knowledge and understanding of CBT theory and practice. This CBT consultation group does not replace supervisory and managerial structures within the participants’ own work settings, and professional liability, legal and case responsibility for the cases discussed remains with the group participants and their service.

Aims of the course?

•Provide CBT practitioners working with children an opportunity to discuss their CBT practice

•Provide participants with the opportunity to develop knowledge, skills and understanding in CBT practice in relation to their own cases

•Provide CBT practitioners with the opportunity to learn from others’ case work

•Provide a forum for sharing ideas and creative practice with colleagues.
