AMBIT Multi-Team Training
- 4 days
About this course
AMBIT is a mentalization based team approach for teams working with young people with severe and multiple needs, who do not tend to access mainstream services.
The AMBIT approach provides tools for putting mentalization to use in work with clients, team colleagues and wider inter-agency networks, and is designed to support the development of both local excellence and evidence-based practice. It is as much a framework for local improvement and learning as it is a unitary and fixed method of therapy; AMBIT stresses the need for local adaptation, and the sharing of emerging evidence and best practice, using its award-winning wiki-based approach to treatment manualization (link to ambit manual: http://ambit.tiddlyspace.com). It has been described as an “open source approach to therapy”.
Who is the course suitable for?
AMBIT is a mentalization based team approach for teams working with young people with severe and multiple needs, who do not tend to access mainstream services, or whose relationship to professional help tends to be avoidant. It is not a training for individual practitioners. Such teams (from both statutory and voluntary sectors) include:
- CAMHS Outreach Teams,
- YOS teams,
- Substance misuse teams,
- Teams working with the homeless, or social care teams.
- It has also been applied in day hospitals and in-patient settings
The Multi-Team training is delivered to the whole teams of 5-15 members. (There is now also a method whereby two members of a team are trained to train the rest of their team-see AMBIT Train the Trainer course).
Training multiple teams together can be beneficial as it can encourage the development of a "community of practice" that extends beyond the geographical and service area covered by a single clinical team, and opportunities can arise for creative connections between teams.
Days 1 - 2
During the first two days, the principled AMBIT stance is described and demonstrated,
including the key AMBIT practices of Working with your Client, Working with your Team, Working with your Network, and Learning at Work.
The third day is an AMBIT Lead training for two individuals from each team who will be responsible for the team’s adoption of AMBIT practice,
Start-Up Training for the whole team, during which sustainability plans are developed that aim to maintain fidelity to new ways of working.
