About this course

The Anna Freud National Centre for Children and Families are launching a campaign called 'You’re Never Too Young to Talk Mental Health' in September 2017. As part of this campaign we will provide all primary schools with a free Talking Mental Health animation and accompanying teacher resource pack which includes assembly plans, lesson plans and cross-curricular activities. These materials support teachers to give children the language they need to talk about mental health and the skills they need to be a good listener, and will help them to understand what to do if they’re worried about a friend.

Who is this course for?

Schools in Mind members; School staff and allied professionals in Newcastle and surrounding areas. The free resource pack is aimed at primary-aged children.

What will the afternoon cover?

This free workshop, led by Jaime Smith (Programme Director of Mental Health and Wellbeing in Schools, AFNCCF) and Miranda Wolpert (Director of Service Improvement & Evaluation and Director of EBPU & CORC) will launch our 'You're Never Too Young to Talk Mental Health' campaign and teacher resource packs. As part of this campaign, we will be calling on school staff across the country to deliver this assembly or lesson in their school following this workshop.

In addition we will have a marketplace showcasing initiatives and resources designed to support mental health and wellbeing in schools, including our new Supporting mental health and wellbeing in schools booklet for all ages, offering practical guidance about what to do if you are worried about a child or young person. There will also be networking opportunities to meet staff from other schools and share your learning and experiences.

(Please note that the same workshop is taking place in LondonBirmingham and Manchester
