A collaboration of authors from the Anna Freud National Centre for Children and Families and The Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust present THRIVE: a new conceptual model for CAMHS. THRIVE framework is a way of conceptualising need amongst a community of children, young people and their families. Need is measured under five categories; thriving, getting advice, getting help, getting more help and getting risk support.
THRIVE Elaborated: Second Edition (2016) develops a new conceptual model for Child Mental Health Services and contains a foreword that explores how the framework is a multi-agency initiative.
The conceptual framework THRIVE has been translated into a model of care called 'i-THRIVE’, which is an integrated, person centred and needs led approach to delivering mental health services for children, young people and families. i-THRIVE was successfully selected to be a national NHS Innovation Accelerator. To support the dissemination of the model, the i-THRIVE partnership has been created between the Anna Freud National Centre for Children and Families, Tavistock & Portman NHS Foundation Trust, Dartmouth Center for Healthcare Delivery Science and UCLPartners. A Community of Practice involving 10 sites from across England is now working to implement the model, supported by a team made up of members from the partnership. We are supporting sites to use evidence based approaches to implementation and will be learning about the impact on access, waiting times, patient choice and engagement with services. Shared decision making (SDM) is an important element of the model and we will be using a new measure of the quality of the shared decision making process, called CollaboRATE, as well as developing tools to support patients and clinicians in the SDM process, called Option Grids.
