The Young People's Project
This project seeks to serve the emotional needs of young people ages 14-18 who are feeling depressed, isolated or struggling with the strain of interpersonal relationships in general.
Two child and adolescent psychotherapists meet weekly with small groups of young people to think and talk about relationships
The meetings follow the basic tenets of mentalization-based therapy; that is, they have a focus on developing the young people's capacity to think and to talk not only about their own thoughts and feelings in the context of relationships, but also to develop their capacity to do so when thinking about another person's perspective.
Groups use role play and other interactive activities to encourage thinking about difficult aspects of interpersonal relationships.
The Anna Freud Centre is currently conducting a group at a local secondary school and is constantly seeking new institutional partners in the process of developing this project.
The project has received funding from the Equitable Trust until the summer of 2008.
A group at the Anna Freud Centre will also begin shortly.
