What’s the big idea on mental health? Our Transformation Seminars series is back!

30th November 2020  |  By: Michelle Cunliffe

After the Anna Freud Centre’s successful series of free Transformation Seminars – we have decided to launch a second series which will now be online.

The new series of Transformation Seminars are being launched on 15 December at a seminar given by Sir Michael Marmot, the world authority on health inequality. All of the seminars are open to the public on Zoom and are free of charge.

The seminars invite speakers to respond to a simple question: what is the one big idea that you have that could transform children’s and families’ mental health in the UK? We know that demand for mental health support is increasing – particularly in light of coronavirus – and that this need cannot be met by professionals alone. So how do we transform the way we think about and deliver mental health support for children and families? The seminars explore areas beyond clinical interventions to ask how we can think about and do things differently individually, collectively and as a society, to reduce the growing needs we have as individuals in our complex and interconnected social world.

The last series included impressive speakers such as Danny Dorling, Miranda Wolpert and Essi Viding. Our eminent speakers for this series include Professor Louise Arseneault, Professor Eamon McCrory and Professor Paul Ramchandani.

The Transformation Seminars will again be chaired by the Anna Freud Centre’s Chief Executive, Professor Peter Fonagy, who said: “We want to address some of the most important questions that we face in mental health. The seminars explore areas beyond clinical interventions – important though they are – to ask how can we do things differently to meet the growing needs we have as individuals in a social world. We have some incredibly eminent speakers with some illuminating ideas and I’d like to invite all of you who are interested to sign up and join the debate around the future of mental health.”

Booking is now open to the following seminars:
Michael Marmot, 15th Dec 2020 - Social Justice, health equity and Covid-19

Louise Arseneault, 19th Jan 2021 - Social relationships and their impact on mental health and wellbeing

Karl Friston, 17th Feb 2021 - Me and my Markov blanket

More lectures to be announced shortly. To keep informed of upcoming events as they're released, please join the free Anna Freud Learning Network.
