Derbyshire CAMHS (Erewash)
Service Description
CAMHS stands for Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services. We support children and young people aged 0-18 (and their families) with a wide range of difficulties such as emotional issues, intellectual disabilities and behavioural problems. Our specialist CAMHS teams provide services for Long Eaton residents and employ a range of highly qualified and specialist clinicians and therapists
Mental health is something we all have and just like physical health, sometimes in our lives we struggle with it. Sometimes we develop mental health problems, such as finding it hard to concentrate, feeling sad or worrying a lot. When this happens our difficulties can stop us living our life in the way we want to.
Lots of children and young people go to CAMHS with a wide range of difficulties. So if you come to see us, you are not alone. Did you know: 1 in 4 people in the UK experience a mental health problem in a year and 1 in 10 children and young people have a diagnosable mental health disorder - that is, a condition or illness that a health professional would be able to identify.
Depending on your age, you may be seen with a parent or carer. We keep what you tell us confidential (private). The only time we would tell someone else, is if you have told us something that means you or someone else will be unsafe. If that is the case, we will talk to you about it first. This means you will know who we contact before we do it. We will often receive a referral from your GP, school nurse or other professional person. We will then invite you for a First Appointment to learn more about you.
It is up to you what you decide to share with us. We like you to not feel under any pressure - that you have to speak if you are not ready. We will ask you questions such as 'how are things for you?' and 'how can we or others help you?' Sometimes it can be useful to write things down that you would like to share before you come, so you don't have to worry about forgetting things.
