Senior Mental Health Lead training for colleges

The course is intermediate level and suitable for those in leadership positions who are able to implement strategic, whole-college change.

If you have strategic responsibility for mental health in your college, this cohort of SMHL training for FE and sixth form college professionals is for you. The practical course uses a robust evidence base to upskill senior leaders to influence, promote and embed the whole school or college approach to positive mental health and wellbeing that is sustainable. As this particular cohort of our SMHL course is only for staff working in colleges, it will also give you the opportunity to network and learn from other colleagues working with students aged 16+. 

By the end of the two-day course, senior mental health leads with be able to:

• articulate a plan for how they will put in place a whole-college approach to positive mental health and wellbeing;

• demonstrate how they will work with all staff in the college to raise mental health awareness and literacy and support staff wellbeing;

• identify and support students who may require alternative approaches to meeting their mental health and wellbeing needs;

• adopt and monitor the impact of a range of interventions provided to individuals or groups of students and adapt the approach as needed;

• engage with the mental health provision in the local area in order to develop a good understanding of outcome measures used by mental health professionals;

• plan for involving parents/carers/families and the outside community in the culture of wellbeing the college is trying to create.
