About this course

The Mental Health Awareness Training for secondary schools is underpinned by the Centre's longstanding experience of working within schools to support pupil, parent/carer and staff mental health.

Aims of the training:

  • Provide an evidence-based one-day training in Mental Health knowledge, skills and practical tools to enable the identification of the early signs of a Mental Health concern
  • Build confidence across staff groups in education settings to talk to Children and Young People who are showing signs of on-going and/or crisis mental health concerns about their Mental Health and wellbeing.
  • Support staff to confidently embed a whole school approach to mental health, building an ethos that:
  • Promotes emotional wellbeing for pupils as well as school staff
  • Reduces the stigma associated with mental health issues and supports a resilient workforce.
  • Increase knowledge and awareness of resources to support Children and Young People’s mental health and wellbeing, ensuring school staff can effectively guide pupils and parents/carers to the right support.

This one-day training will be freely available to those mainstream secondary schools who have not yet received Mental Health First Aid Training in 2017 - 2018.

The training will be available for up to two members of staff from each eligible secondary school. View the directory of eligible secondary schools
