About this course

The AMBIT approach provides tools for putting mentalization to use in work with clients, team colleagues and wider inter-agency networks, and is designed to support the development of both local excellence and evidence-based practice. It is as much a framework for local improvement and learning as it is a unitary and fixed method of therapy; AMBIT stresses the need for local adaptation, and the sharing of emerging evidence and best practice, using its award-winning wiki-based approach to treatment manualization (link to ambit manual:  It has been described as an “open source approach to therapy”.

Who is the course suitable for?

This free workshop is for recent AMBIT trainees who were unable to set up their own AMBIT Manual during training whilst the Manual was undergoing maintenance.

What will I learn?

AMBIT tutors will help AMBIT trainees set up their own Manual for their team. They will spend time showing you:

  • How to read and navigate around the manual;
  • How you can learn from other teams manualizing their practice;
  • How to add and edit material in your manual.

Should my whole team come?

It isn't necessary for your whole team to come, but it would be great if at least two people could come from your team to learn how to manualise.

Do I need to bring anything?

If you can, please bring a laptop with you to work on the Manual. If you are unable to do this, please let us know as soon as possible. The Centre has laptops that we can book out, but they are few and far between! The Centre will provide light refreshments, but as it is a free event we will not be able to provide lunch, so please bring something with you if you would like to eat at the Centre. There are lots of shops close-by should you wish to buy something on your way to/from the workshop.
