About this course

This three day course aims to provide an understanding of parental reflective functioning/mentalization and to become a reliable coder of RF of the Parent Development Interview. The course will give an brief introduction to Reflective Functioning and to the Parent Development Interview. Delegates will be shown how the RF coding system works. They will also use the manual to highlight all the categories of RF statements. The course will include homework which must be completed overnight and which will form the basis of discussion the next day.

Aims of course

Delegates will learn how to assign the correct RF score to statements within the categories - ("Giving a single score"). They will also learn how to code a complete Parent Development Interview, showing in a practical way what to underline in the text of the interview and what to report on the coding sheet.

Who is this course suitable for?

Researchers and practitioners who are interested in caregiver mentalizing. The coding system provides a deep understanding of caregiver mentalizing and how it can be assessed through interview methods. The course will enable participants to become accredited reliable coders. The skills that participants will gain from this course can be used for research or in applied clinical settings, such as in parenting assessments or intervention planning.

Reliability Test

In order to receive PDI-RF accreditation, participants are required to complete the Reliability Test which includes the additional coding of 10 Parent Development Interviews. Those who choose to do the Reliability Test will be sent a file containing 10 Parent Development Interviews and instructions at the end of the Reflective Functioning on PDI training. On successful completion of the Reliability Test you will be authorised to use the Reflective Functioning Scale for clinical or research purposes.

Please note, accreditation will only be given to those who successfully complete the Reliability Test. There is an additional £125 reliability fee if you wish to receive PDI-RF accreditation.
