Save the Children
Sara Hommel joined Save the Children in 2011. She leads the global Healing and Education through the Arts (HEART) program, an arts-based approach to providing psychosocial support to children affected by chronic stress and poverty.
Prior to joining Save the Children, Sara spent 7 years at the Brookings Institution in Washington DC designing and managing research and advocacy on education, health, and nutrition programs and policies for young children in the developing world. Before her time at Brookings, she worked with several NGOs addressing the needs of children affected by conflict and poverty in multiple countries.
Over the last two decades, Sara has worked on the ground in more than 20 countries. She holds degrees in Sociology, International Relations and Political Science from St. Lawrence University and Central European University and is a doctoral candidate at the UCL Institute of Education at the University of London.
Sara is a classically trained musician and studied music, art, and drama therapy during both her undergraduate and post-graduate studies.
Sara lives in London, England with her husband and 3 houseplants. She is passionate about music, coffee, chocolate, and unique eyeglasses.
