Hei Wan (Karen) Mak
Karen joined University College London in November 2018 as a Research Fellow in Quantitative Social Science in the Department of Behavioural Science and Health. She has a PhD degree in Sociology at the University of Cambridge.
Having a background in Sociology, Karen has a strong research interest in the social determinants of health and wellbeing, with a particular focus on how early family relationships and arts engagement influence health/wellbeing. Some of her work are featured in public media (including the Wall Street Journal and the Pacific Standard). She is currently working on a research project focusing on the association between arts and cultural engagement and mental health among young people. She is also an active member in MARCH Mental Health Network, Arts Health Early Career Research Network, and the Society for Social Medicine.
