Tim Quinn is a RGN/RMN dual qualified nurse with over 25-years clinical experience in general and mental health nursing. His experience includes being team leader for Acute Mental Health, Neuropsychiatry and Liaison Psychiatry specialitiesat St Thomas’ Hospital. He also has experience working in mother and baby acute mental health units.
Whilst at St. Thomas’ Tim studied Psychodynamic Psychotherapy and Medical Anthropology at MSc level as well as training as a Cognitive Analytic Therapist through the Association of Cognitive Analytic Therapists (ACAT). He specialised in using Cognitive Analytic Therapy with people experiencing complex disorders of the self, specifically Borderline Personality Disorder.
Tim then specialised in Substance Misuse by working for the South London & Maudsley Addictions Directorate in the role of Senior Substance Misuse Nurse for five years. He has experience of working with highly complex clients from diverse cultural backgrounds.
In January 2008 Tim joined the Tavistock’s innovative Family Drug and Alcohol Court Team (FDAC) as a Clinical Nurse Specialist, he uses his enhanced psychological training and skills in his clinical work offering families the benefit of expert holistic assessment and collaborative psychosocial interventions. Tim supervises the FDAC specialist nurses in Kent and Milton Keynes and coordinates a network of substance misuse specialists and nurses across the 16 national FDAC teams; helping to share clinical expertise and developments in substance misuse.
Tim has extensive strategic management experience having established the first Tavistock and Portman Young Peoples Substance Misuse team and is the lead of the Tavistock’s Living Well Programme. Tim has lectured at Brunel and Middlesex Universities as well as the Tavistock and Anna Freud Centres.
