I am a researcher in the Department of Educational Research at Lancaster University. I am currently working on the ESRC funded project ‘Gender Diversification of the Early Years Workforce; Recruiting, Supporting and Retaining Male Practitioners’. I completed a PhD in Sociology, also at Lancaster University, and my doctoral thesis examined women’s use of fertility tracking devices when trying to conceive. I have worked on many different social science projects, both in the UK and internationally, including studies on gender and ageing, health technologies, social isolation and loneliness, end-of-life care, and (a very different topic!) the role of army reservists in the British Armed Forces. Before becoming a researcher, I was a teacher of both adults and children working in schools in Spain, Colombia and Bulgaria.
