The Children and Young People's Mental Health (CYP MH) Workforce Development team continues the work of the CYP IAPT Programme Team, and the London & South East Collaborative with the aims of improving children and young peoples’ experience of mental health services, improving outcomes and in developing a skilled workforce.
The New Workforce Development team is commissioned by Health Education England and NHS England, building upon and further embedding the CYP IAPT Principles, in order to increase the workforce as recommended in both the Five Year Forward View for Mental Health and the Green Paper. CYP IAPT principles are now viewed as ‘business as usual’ and are the foundation for all new workforce training programmes. There is recognition that we need to increase the workforce to ensure that children, young people can access quality services in a timely fashion.
The New Workforce Development team oversees the application process undertaken by children and young people’s emotional well-being and mental health services to access funding available for the recruitment of practitioners to train on one of the following postgraduate programmes delivered at UCL and KCL:
- CYP IAPT Therapy Recruit to Train (RtT)
- Children’s Wellbeing Practitioner (CWP)
- Education Mental Health Practitioner (EMHP)
The New Workforce development team’s work continues after recruitment, as they support both the trainees and the children and young people’s emotional well-being and mental health services attached to each of the programme's above by providing a link between the course content and the implementation of training in to practice.
