Nurseries are on the frontline when it comes to supporting babies, infants and young children's mental wellbeing.  Staff working in nurseries are ideally placed to recognise and respond to early signs of mental health difficulties young children and their families.  The below series of films, featuring some of the Centre's child mental health experts, aim to provide help and guidance to nursery staff on how to manage a range of different issues.

Subjects include: how to manage challenging behaviour, how to offer support to children who may have experienced trauma or abuse, and how best to support those who have suffered a bereavement.

  • Managing challenging behaviour in early years settings

    The Centre's Early Years in Mind learning network hosted a webinar on managing challenging behavior in early years setting in February 2021. The event was aimed at frontline practitioners including nursery workers, managers and childminders.

  • Trauma and repair webinar

    In this webinar, without downplaying the effects of trauma, our panel will acknowledge the realities through a lens of repair. Facilitated by the Chair, Dr Abi Miranda, the panel discuss a range of topics that highlight best practice in the context of trauma. For example, the panel discuss effective multi-disciplinary working with social workers, providing a “good enough” online service for adoptive parents, and celebrating nursery cultures that foster belonging and anti-racist practice.

  • Supporting dads

    This webinar reflects on the Mind the Dad programme, which supports new dads transitioning to fatherhood, here at the Anna Freud Centre. There are also reflections and learnings from experienced practitioners and lived experienced insight from an LGBTQI+ fostering experience.

  • Supporting staff wellbeing in early years settings

    This webinar will offer early years workers multiple perspectives on staff wellbeing in this setting. It includes information around the importance of staff wellbeing and insight from a practice perspective. 

  • Supporting children in early years settings who may have experienced trauma

    The Centre's Early Years in Mind learning network hosted a webinar on supporting traumatised children in early years settings which took place in June 2021.
