West London NHS Trust, in partnership with the Anna Freud Centre and University College London, has been awarded the contract to deliver the National Hub for the Knowledge and Understanding Framework (KUF) training by NHS England & Improvement, Health Education England and Her Majesty’s Prison & Probation Service.

The KUF Hub will support the growth of skills and knowledge of the workforce across the health, social care, criminal justice and third sectors, to effectively support service users with complex mental health difficulties associated with a diagnosis of ‘personality disorder.’

The training aims to improve staff confidence and competence to support the recovery of people who have complex emotional needs associated with the diagnosis of ‘personality disorder.’

The £4.5m, three-year contract is expected to deliver training for over 6,000 people in the first 12 months.

The KUF Hub and the KUF training are fully co-produced and co-delivered. This psychologically-informed, relational training emphasises that the roots of complex emotional needs are to be found in developmental histories scarred by trauma, neglect and adversity.

Claire Evans, Head of CYP MH Workforce Development at the Anna Freud Centre, says:
“We are delighted to be working with West London NHS Trust together on this national training contract, supporting the development in competence and confidence of the workforce to understand and respond to the needs of people with complex mental health difficulties associated with a diagnosis of ‘personality disorder.’ We fully support the co-production and co-delivery of both the KUF Hub and KUF training by people with lived experience ensuring that the voices of those this endeavour is aiming to help are truly at its heart."
