AFNCCF commissions nationwide survey of Staff Wellbeing in Schools

The Anna Freud National Centre for Children and Families together with Teacher Tapp will next week launch a survey examining the mental health and wellbeing of thousands of teachers across the country.

Over 3 days, teachers with the app will be asked a series of multiple choice questions relating to their emotional and mental wellbeing in the context of their time at work. The survey will run parallel with a 7 day consultation of the Centre’s Schools In Mind network which now has over 5,000 members representing over 3,000 schools. The findings from the survey and consultation will be published in a report which will be released in the autumn term.

In conjunction with the survey, the Centre will also publish a number of blogs from teachers, authors, experts and activists from the field of teaching and teacher wellbeing.

Director for the Mental Health and Wellbeing in Schools Programme at AFNCCF Jaime Smith said,

“We are delighted to be working with Teacher Tapp to examine this critically important but all too often ignored aspect of mental health and wellbeing in schools.

“Taking good care of school staff both emotionally and practically helps them to perform to the best of their ability and ensures that they are better able to support the pupils that they teach. However, more and more we are hearing of teachers leaving the profession due to problems like stress.

“We hope that this survey will increase understanding and awareness around the pressures faced by school staff and increase the future potential for us to develop evidence-based interventions and resources to help.”
