About this e-learning

Black and racially minoritised young people can experience racism in many areas of their lives - including at school. Experiencing racism can have significant mental health consequences for young people.

In this free online training course, staff will learn practical strategies for tackling racism in schools, and how to introduce a whole-school approach to anti-racism and mental health. The self-paced course has been built around our 5 Steps framework, which supports educators to create a whole-school approach to mental health and wellbeing.

This training has been produced in collaboration with BLAM UK, the Honourable Stuart Lawrence, school staff from a range of settings, and features the voices of young people throughout.

Aims of this training

Staff will learn practical strategies for tackling racism in schools, and how to introduce a whole-school approach to anti-racism and mental health. The training is organised into five modules:

  1. Leading change for anti-racism

  2. Working together to be an anti-racist school

  3. Understanding the needs of Black and racially minoritised students

  4. Promoting the wellbeing of Black and racially minoritised students

  5. Supporting the wellbeing of Black and racially minoritised staff

The modules are designed to be completed flexibly and are estimated to take between 3 and 5 hours. They include reflective activities and suggested actions that can be undertaken individually or collaboratively.

Who is this training for?

This training is relevant to anyone working in a school or college setting, regardless of role or level of experience. While different modules may connect more closely to different roles, all modules contribute to a shared understanding of anti-racism and mental health across the whole school and college community.
