Sonya Godley is currently Deputy Programme Director on the UCL/Anna Freud Centre Child and Young Persons Psychological Wellbeing Practice (CWP), Postgraduate Certificate course.
She provides CBT consultation and training to a range of professionals, such as social workers, teachers, and educational psychologists.
Sonya’s thesis researched the effectiveness of a CBT intervention to reduces exam stress in Year 11 school pupils.
Sonya has also worked within Cathy Creswell’s (Reading University) RCT exploring the effectiveness of a guided self-help parent-led approach to reducing child anxiety.
Sonya is a Social Work England registered Social Worker and a BABCP accredited CBT therapist. She has worked extensively with children, young people, and their families in a variety of health and social care settings, specialising in working therapeutically with the effects of trauma and neglect on children’s mental health and attachment.
Additionally, she is Deputy Team Manager for the Brent Wellbeing and Emotional Support Team (WEST) supporting the delivery of direct interventions to children and young people as well as supervision, consultation, and training to professionals.
She uses Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), MBT (Mentalization-Based Treatment), Video Interaction Guidance (VIG), Non-Violent Resistance (NVR) in individual and/or group interventions with children, young people, and their families.
