Interpersonal Psychotherapy Training (IPT) Refresher

The clinically focused workshop will provide a refresher for recently trained IPT therapists and will focus on how to implement the key objectives of the IPT model in routine practice.

About this training

The IPT Refresher half-day will provide an opportunity to refresh understanding of the structure and objectives of the IPT model following your initial practice.

This training is entirely organised around practice questions posed in advance by attendees. There is no standard slide set, and each refresher half-day is a response to the questions submitted by the group.

During this training, we will give particular attention to key issues that are often difficult for therapists to feel confident in managing during initial casework, such as conducting a symptom review, finding a focus, negotiating useful and relevant goals, and maintaining links between the interpersonal context and symptoms across the session.

Attendees will be strongly encouraged to bring recorded clips of their work to review with the group and receive live supervision on the issues they are finding difficult in practice. Previous attendees have found this is a very helpful way to develop effective clinical skills.

Who is this training for?

The refresher half-day is suitable for those who have attended a five-day IPT practitioner, perinatal or IPT-A training and are completing or have recently completed accreditation casework. As part of the original training, trainees can attend two refresher half days for free – please email the team at ipt@annafreud.org for the voucher code.

This is also open to recently qualified and more experienced staff looking for a refresher.
