Interpersonal Psychotherapy Training (IPT) Brief

This training is designed for accredited IPT practitioners and supervisors, offering in-depth insights into the evidence, assessment processes, and techniques unique to IPT-B.

About this training

This one-day training is a modification of Interpersonal Psychotherapy Training (IPT), an evidence-based psychotherapy for depression. IPT-Brief (IPT-B) is recommended in the NICE guidelines for depression for some people who might benefit from IPT. Treatment in IPT-B is reduced to 8 sessions and is recommended for clients who are unlikely or unable to commit to 16 sessions. Research has primarily been conducted in perinatal settings.

This training provides guidance to qualified IPT practitioners and supervisors who wish to learn about the format and evidence for this shortened intervention and consider its relevance for some people referred for IPT.

Aims of this training

Following this training, attendees will be able to:

  • describe the range and limits of evidence evaluating IPT-B

  • explain to colleagues how to determine if individuals would be likely to benefit from IPT-B or IPT

  • implement the shorter and highly-focused assessment required to completed the brief intervention

  • recognise ways in which familiar techniques must be adapted to work within a briefer timeframe.

Who is this training for?
