Working in Partnership with Parents and Carers

Learn how to build trust and strengthen collaboration with parents and carers. This introductory training helps education staff improve engagement to support children’s learning and wellbeing.

About this training

Parent engagement has been found to be one of the most important factors impacting a child’s ability to learn, playing an even greater role than the quality of the school (Department for Education, 2010).

Anna Freud, in collaboration with the co-founders of the Pears Family School, have developed an introductory training programme for mainstream primary and secondary schools to develop an understanding the complexities of parental engagement and develop the skills and knowledge on how to improve parental relationships within your school.

Aims of this training

By the end of the training session, you will:

  • Understand the link between parent and carer partnership and student wellbeing and educational outcomes.

  • Understand how trust will foster parent and carer partnership.

  • Know the skills and techniques needed to create safety and collaboration within difficult conversations.

Who is this training for?

This training is suitable for education staff who work regularly with parents and carers e.g. pastoral leads and year leaders.
