About this event
This practical, skills-focused training explores the use of Structured Clinical Management (SCM) with older adults experiencing complex emotional and relational difficulties. The course covers adapting SCM for later life, managing risk and dependency, and maintaining therapeutic consistency within multidisciplinary teams. It is ideal for mental health and social care professionals seeking a clear, compassionate, and evidence-based framework for working with complexity in later life.
The training will be led by David Rawlinson and supported by three expert speakers: Professor Arjan Videler, a leading expert in psychotherapy for older adults and head of PersonaCura, a clinical centre of excellence for personality and developmental disorders; Dr Georgina Beldon, Principal Clinical Psychologist who has developed and led an SCM programme for older adults within community mental health teams; and Dr Leon Simpson, Principal Clinical Psychologist with extensive experience implementing SCM pathways and trauma-informed services across NHS trusts in London.

This training is designed for healthcare professionals who work with service users with complex emotional and relational needs, as well as for those involved in SCM practice who wish to enhance their skills and expertise in this area.

David Rawlinson
David Rawlinson is the SCM co-ordinator, tutor at Anna Freud and Consultant Psychological Therapist, Associate Psychological Services Director - Community and Access at West Cumbria Mental Health Community Treatment Team (CTT) and Complex Emotional Needs pathway lead in North Cumbria.
Professor Arjan Videler
Endowed professor in Psychotherapy in older adults at Tranzo department, Tilburg University. Head of PersonaCura, clinical centre of excellence in personality and developmental disorders in older adults, GGz Breburg, Tilburg. Certified supervisor of the Dutch association for cognitive-behavioural therapy, and teaches psychotherapy in older adults and assessment of personality disorders in older adults at RINO Zuid in Eindhoven and RINO Group in Utrecht. Throughout his clinical work, teaching and research activities, Arjan has always been intrigued by personality disorders and autism in later life, and enhancing the outcome of psychotherapy for older adults.
Dr Georgina Beldon (Principal Clinical Psychologist, Herefordshire and Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust)
Over the past 17 years Georgina has worked as a Clinical Psychologist working within Older adult community mental health teams across Worcestershire. She has worked with a wide range of patients with complex emotional needs and long-term conditions. She is a MBT practitioner and she has been supporting the development of, then leading on, a SCM adapted programme for Older adults across Worcestershire, embedded in current community mental health teams, with no additional resources. The evaluation of this pilot SCM group for Older adults was published this year. She continues to develop in-house training to support the embedding of a SCM approach across the wider Older adult mental health service locally.
Dr Leon Simpson (Principal Clinical Psychologist, Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust)
Dr Leon Simpson is a Principal Clinical Psychologist for Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust, and works across Older People and Adult MH services. His areas of interest and research background is on developing pathway-focused and integrated models of ‘whole team’ treatments. He is an accredited Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT) Practitioner and Supervisor, with an interest in the adult Community Mental Health (CMH) Transformation programme and developing trauma informed services. He has been involved with and led on the delivery, development and implementation of multiple SCM Pathways across different London trusts.
