What is the Brent Wellbeing Team?

The Brent Wellbeing Team is a service that provides early intervention mental health support for children and young people - aged between 5 - 18 years old or up to 25 if the young person has SEND needs or a diagnosis - based in Brent.

The team consists of wellbeing practitioners who work with children, young people, and families presenting mild to moderate mental health needs.

The Brent Wellbeing Team is a collaboration between Anna Freud and Brent Partnership Local Youth Resource and Advice Service (LYRA), which offers early mental health support across Brent.

How does the service work?

Our practitioners use evidence-based, goal focused, CBT interventions for mild to moderate anxiety, low mood, and common behaviour difficulties. We aim to empower children, young people, and families, and provide tools to support the difficulties they experience while also preventing escalation.

Our team works within the community in Family Wellbeing Centres and Brent Civic Centre. We also offer online sessions so that we can be more accessible to those we support.

How does the Brent Wellbeing Team support families?

We provide up to 6-8 weekly sessions of therapeutic support for:

  • adolescent anxiety

  • child anxiety

  • low mood

  • common behaviour difficulties

  • friendships and relationships

  • sleep

  • self-esteem

These sessions can be completed by parents and carers, and child and young people depending on their age. If the young person is 11+, the work is primarily carried out with the young person. If they are under 11, the practitioner works primarily with their parent or carer. When required, we can work with parents and carers and the young person together.

We also support professionals through consultation and signposting.

The Brent Wellbeing Team does not offer:

  • long term support

  • crisis support

  • support to high risk children and young people (for example, actively suicidal, emerging serious mental illness)

  • diagnostic assessments

  • support for children and young people out of the age and location remit
