Adult Inpatient Settings Training for Experts by Experience

The three-day training prepares potential Experts by Experience to co-deliver the NATP across adult inpatient settings alongside NATP-trained NHS delegates.

About this training

Experts by Experience (EbEs) are those with relevant lived experience or a close family member of someone with relevant lived experience. This training will educate attendees on the National Autism Trainer Programme (NATP) course content which they will then co-deliver alongside a qualified NATP trainer in an adult inpatient mental health setting.

Please note that specialist or high-level skills are not required to attend the course.

Aims of this training

  • To successfully train as an EbE to co-deliver the NATP course in an adult inpatient mental health setting alongside an NATP trainer;

  • To communicate the barriers experienced by autistic people in an adult inpatient mental health environment;

  • To discuss examples of innovative relational and trauma informed approaches of working with, rather than on or for, autistic individuals;

  • To practise how to facilitate delivery of slides and animations in settings with a NATP qualified co-trainer.

Who is this training for?

To attend the adult inpatient settings EbE training, attendees must fulfil the following eligibility criteria:

  • Be autistic OR be a sibling/parent of an autistic person who has also experienced additional co-occurring mental health conditions (anxiety, depression, eating disorders, suicidality, psychosis etc.);

  • Have experience as a service user of mental health services, residential special education, and/or health and justice services;

  • Not be a clinician/practitioner in one of these settings.
