UK Trauma Council Insight Series - Trauma and Learning Disabilities: Navigating Complex Childhood Needs
This webinar explores how trauma affects those with learning disabilities, the challenges in recognising and responding to distress, and how practitioners can provide effective, compassionate support.
About this webinar
Following Learning Disability week, join Dr. Laura Bartlett, Clinical Psychologist in a specialist NHS CAMHS team for children with learning disabilities, and Beck Ferrari, Clinical Content Lead at UK Trauma Council, as they share their expertise on the often-overlooked needs of trauma-exposed children and young people with learning disabilities.
This population frequently faces barriers to accessing appropriate services and is often excluded from research on effective trauma interventions. As a result, the impact of trauma is frequently under-recognised, and evidence-based support remains limited.
Beck Ferrari will explore trauma-informed approaches and interactions and offer a unique personal perspective through a pre-recorded conversation with her sister, who has a learning disability. Dr. Bartlett will draw on her extensive clinical experience and share creative approaches to adapting trauma-focused interventions for children and young people with learning disabilities.
The webinar will highlight why children with learning disabilities must have their needs recognised and responded to with the same compassion and quality of evidence-based care available to all children.
This webinar aims to:
better equip all those supporting children and young people exposed to trauma
increase knowledge, skills and confidence in professionals and carers
share the latest evidence-based research to inform and support best practice.
Who is this webinar for?
The UKTC Insight Series webinars are aimed at professionals supporting children and young people who have experienced trauma.
A certificate of attendance will be sent to all attendees who attend the live webinar.
